30 Years on Gujarat's Marine Salt Belt: The Ankur Chemfood Story

In 1994, in Gandhidham, Kutch, the Champalal Group saw an opportunity hiding in plain sight: a coastline that happened to sit on one of India's most productive marine salt regions.
An opportunity hiding in plain sight
We set up on the coast of Gujarat, steps away from India's most productive marine salt region and within reach of two of the country's biggest ports. From day one, we chose to do things properly: Swiss technology, automated machinery, triple refinement, no shortcuts.
Growing into five plants
We expanded to five manufacturing plants on National Highway 8A, near Deendayal Port Trust (Kandla) and Adani Port (Mundra). Our capacity grew, and our export reach grew with it.

Recognition along the way
Along the way, Ankur Chemfood Limited received the Bharatiya Udyog Ratna Award in recognition of its contribution to Indian industry, and was nominated among the top three companies in India for the Emerging India Award by ICICI Bank, CRISIL and CNBC in 2010, with the ceremony held in Macau, Hong Kong.
What the next chapter looks like
Three decades in, the fundamentals haven't changed: source it properly, refine it properly, test it properly. What's changed is how far it now travels.
