Eating Mindfully, One Pinch at a Time

Fresh salad with a pinch of salt being added

Namak kam hi khaaye, par achha khaaye: eat less salt, but eat salt that's real. That's less a slogan than the actual habit worth building, and it has less to do with cutting salt out than with using it with a bit more attention.

What mindful salt use actually looks like

Most people season on autopilot, a shake while cooking, another at the table, without tasting in between. Mindful use just means slowing that down enough to notice how much you're actually adding.

Small habits, real difference

  • Season in stages while cooking and taste before adding more, instead of salting once at the start
  • Measure with a spoon occasionally, just to recalibrate what a "pinch" actually means in your kitchen
  • Choose the grade for the job: Free Flow Iodised for everyday cooking, Dr. Salt if you're actively moderating sodium
  • Season at the table sparingly; food that's well seasoned in the pot rarely needs much more

Why the salt itself still matters

Using less only helps if what you're using is worth using. Triple refined, tested in-house batch by batch, and iodised to a checked standard, not just labelled as such.

The bottom line

Eating mindfully isn't about giving salt up. It's about paying enough attention that every pinch is doing something for the dish, and choosing salt you don't have to think twice about. Real salt. Nothing hidden.
